A Sweet Finish to The Chocolate Touch
Altrusa volunteers wrapped up their semester with third graders at Tully Elementary by celebrating the final chapter of The Chocolate Touch—a modern twist on the classic tale of The Midas Touch.
In both stories, the idea is simple but powerful: having too much of something you love can come with unexpected consequences. It’s a lesson students explored together week by week throughout the semester.
After finishing the book, students were treated to a tea party—complete with real china teacups and, of course, plenty of sweets, including chocolate.
A Celebration That Brings the Story to Life
The tea party was a fun and memorable way to connect the story’s message to a real experience. As students gathered around the tables, the themes they had discussed—choices, consequences, and “too much of a good thing”—came full circle.
More than anything, the celebration reflected what Turning Pages on Tuesdays is all about: making reading something students can experience, not just complete.
By showing up week after week—and ending with a moment like this—Altrusa helps turn books into lasting memories.
