Altrusa International of Tucson honors Jim Newcomb with an Honorary Membership
Sometimes, the best partnerships begin with a simple walk around the neighborhood.
Altrusa Tucson’s Vice President, Elaine Wilder, met Jim Newcomb while walking their dogs to the same park. In July 2024, after many months of friendly conversations, Jim mentioned that he built and maintained websites for small businesses and nonprofit organizations. Elaine, always looking for ways to strengthen Altrusa’s presence in the community, noted that the club’s website needed an update.
That casual exchange led to something extraordinary.
Jim soon took a look at Altrusa Tucson’s website and was excited to help. He was impressed by all that Elaine had shared with him—the organization’s scope of service, literacy programs, community outreach, and countless projects benefiting children and families throughout Southern Arizona. Inspired by Altrusa’s mission, Jim volunteered his time and expertise to completely rebuild the site from the ground up.
Over the months that followed, Jim designed and launched a modern, easy-to-navigate site that highlights the group’s impact through news updates, program spotlights, and photo galleries. He also began writing blogs and managing content updates to help ensure the organization’s efforts are seen and appreciated throughout the community. Altrusa calls him Webmaster, but his contributions have gone well beyond that title.
Jim’s work has been entirely pro bono, reflecting the same spirit of service that defines Altrusa itself.
In recognition of his ongoing support and generous contributions, the Altrusa Tucson Board recently voted to make Jim an Honorary Member. At a recent gathering, Elaine Wilder presented him with a framed certificate of Honorary Membership and a gift card on behalf of the club.
“Jim has developed a style that fits exactly with our needs,” Elaine shared. “He clarifies our write-ups, adds so much more to each piece, and makes the content and graphics truly inviting. We Altrusans are so appreciative.”
Jim expressed his gratitude for the honor and reflected on what the collaboration has meant to him. “I get great personal joy from helping Altrusa,” he said. “It’s an organization that genuinely changes lives, and I’m proud to help get the word out about the good work being done here in Tucson.”
With his ongoing partnership, Altrusa Tucson’s story is reaching new audiences and inspiring others to get involved in literacy, leadership, and service to the community.
