Behind the Scenes: Judging for the Young Authors Contest

On January 15, 2025, Altrusa Tucson members gathered at Marcia Lucas’s home to judge entries for the Young Authors Contest, part of the upcoming Tucson Festival of Books. Surrounded by stacks of imaginative stories and heartfelt poems, our members carefully reviewed over 120 submissions from talented young writers across Southern Arizona.

This contest, proudly sponsored by Altrusa Tucson, celebrates creativity and encourages students in grades 1–12 to share their voices through writing. The judging process is always a highlight of the year, offering a glimpse into the incredible imagination and storytelling skills of our local youth.

We are excited to honor 20 winners at the Tucson Festival of Books on March 15, 2025, where they will be recognized for their outstanding work. Each winner will receive a published anthology featuring their story or poem, a special gift bag, and a $100 gift certificate to the University of Arizona Bookstore.
