Altrusa Tucson’s Ongoing Support for Tully Elementary School Library
Author Sheila Hugunin
Altrusa Tucson members have been dedicated volunteers at Tully Elementary Magnet School’s library for several years, playing a crucial role in its operation and enhancement. Our members volunteer as librarians in response to school budget constraints. We organized library systems, ensuring that older students have access to well-maintained resources. Additionally, we provide hands-on support in the Pre-K section, fostering a love for reading among the youngest learners.
Recognizing the importance of early literacy, Altrusa Tucson has invested in the Pre-K library section by purchasing and donating books through our Foundation funds and grants from Altrusa International. We also collaborate with the nonprofit organization Make Way for Books to facilitate additional donations, enriching the library’s collection. This partnership allows Pre-K students to check out two teacher-recommended books, encouraging reading at school and home.
Our commitment to Tully Elementary reflects Altrusa’s “Leading to a Better Community” mission by promoting literacy, leadership, development, and fellowship. Through these efforts, we aim to empower young minds and support educational growth within our community.
We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Tully Elementary’s library and for the dedication of our members who volunteer their time and resources. Together, we continue to positively impact students’ lives, fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning.
