Bringing Stories to Life: Altrusa’s Literacy Outreach in Tucson Schools
Last week, Altrusa members had the wonderful opportunity to visit classrooms at Tully, White, and Bonillas Elementary Schools, sharing stories with young students and encouraging them to engage with books in a new way. After reading, we introduced them to the Tucson Festival of Books Author Poster Project, providing simple shape-drawing suggestions to help them create their own author posters. The students were enthusiastic listeners and showed great interest in the stories.

Now that our classroom visits are complete for the year, we look forward to seeing the students’ posters displayed at the University of Arizona Education Building during the Tucson Festival of Books on March 15-16. It’s always rewarding to witness young learners engaging with books in ways that spark their creativity and curiosity.
Altrusa Tucson remains committed to promoting literacy and education in our community. If you’d like to support initiatives like these, consider getting involved or making a donation to help us continue bringing the joy of reading to local classrooms.
